FORVA’s State of Our Rivers Report (2001) Remastered
In 2001, Bill Tanger and his crew of local river enthusiasts finished what was the most comprehensive presentation of the status of Virginia’s major rivers and waterways at the time. After collecting data from the late 90’s to 2001, Tanger and his colleagues at FORVA–Friends of the Rivers of Virginia–produced a report which sought to make sense of the conflicting accounts of the health of Virginia’s watersheds (the federal government had produced one study; the Commonwealth of Virginia, another).
While individual rivers across the commonwealth have been aggressively studied since the 2001 study, FORVA’s State of Our Rivers Report (2001) ranks among one of the most comprehensive reports about the problems facing rivers across Virginia in the last several decades.
Originally presented in magazine-style with limited publication, the 2001 report appears below via Issuu (scanned from a salvaged copy of the print edition).
