Free at Last . . . Roanoke River remediation continues
Earlier this spring, the Roanoke River flowed unencumbered from the confluence of the North and South Forks to Wasena Park in the heart of the Star City for the first time in over 40 years.
The last of the concrete-encased sewage conduit was removed from the River just east of the Memorial Avenue Bridge. Sources indicate that the low vehicle bridges between Wasena Park and where Franklin Road crosses the River near Riverside Park are next on the list. Hopefully, these will be removed in short order.
